Important Notes
Faculty and staff members who are employed on a 12-month basis may not receive wages for teaching in Summer Session.
Wages are split when faculty co-teach a course.
No UVA faculty member may earn more than one-third of his/her base salary in Summer Session.
The University prohibits remote work, including flexwork, outside the fifty (50) United States and the District of Columbia unless required as a part of the responsibilities of the position. For more information, see the UVA Policy on Flexwork.
Visiting Faculty
When hiring visiting instructors, the Summer Chair should contact the Office of Summer and Special Academic Programs and together they will establish an appropriate wage for that individual. Although listed as a lecturer in the University HR and payroll system, a visiting faculty member will be paid according to the rank held at their home institution. At no time will the wage of a visiting faculty member exceed the summer salary for a full professor.
