Submit Your Application

Complete the Non-Degree Student form and select “Summer Session” as the School/Institute. Do not select “Arts & Sciences” (for international exchange students only).

It may take several business days after submitting your application for your student account to be created. If you don’t hear back within 5–7 business days, email summer@virginia.edu.

Once you've applied, you can submit the Senior Citizen Tuition Waiver if eligible.

Next Steps

  1. Once your student account is created, activate your UVA computing ID before enrolling: https://in.virginia.edu/account-guide and set up your UVA email by visiting Outlook Email Home - UVA ITS.
  2. Enroll in classes using the Student Information System (SIS) at https://in.virginia.edu/sis. Please note that you must be officially enrolled in SIS to attend class meetings and access content.
    1. Want to audit a course? Enroll in the class and contact the Summer Session office at summer@virginia.edu so we can update the grading option in SIS for you. Please note that you must be enrolled in a class to attend, even if you're auditing.
  3. Check your UVA email for updates and other important information from faculty before the first day of class.
  4. Familiarize yourself with UVACanvas, the University's learning management system. Faculty will share resources, post course content, and enter grades through Canvas.
  5. Obtain a University ID card. Follow the steps to get a Mobile ID in order to access library services, fitness centers, and Charlottesville buses. If you prefer a physical ID card, visit the ID office at the Observatory Hill Dining Hall (525 McCormick Road). Be sure to take your government-issued photo ID with you (driver's license, passport, etc.).
