This intensive summer program lets you fast‑track your learning and earn 6 official University of Virginia credits in a single session.
Earn Two Semesters of College French in One Summer
Complete FREN 1016 and FREN 1026, the equivalent of two full semesters of college‑level French. Students receive an official UVA transcript, giving them a valuable academic head start and college‑ready credentials.

Inspire: French Summer Language Institute - UVA Northern Virginia
In this course, students will develop their speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills through dynamic, supportive activities that encourage play, reflection, and creativity. Each unit invites students to engage with real‑world themes, collaborate on meaningful projects, and complete interactive “missions” that strengthen their communication skills.

French Summer Language Institute
The UVA Department of French offers the Summer Language Institute—an accelerated program where students can complete 12 credits of French (FREN 1016–2026), the equivalent of two years of coursework, in just eight weeks.
Short on time? Choose one of two 6‑credit sessions instead of the full program:
- Intensive Introductory French (FREN 1016–1026)
- Intensive Intermediate French (FREN 2016–2026)
Whether you’re beginning French or building on prior study, the SLI offers a fast‑paced, supportive environment for rapid, meaningful progress. College students, community members, and rising high school juniors and seniors are welcome to apply.
