Course Description: OPEN ONLY TO UVA ADVANCE PARTICIPANTS. Sharpen speaking and writing skills for professional situations. Students will learn strategies for structuring and delivering persuasive material for a variety of audiences and will engage in some of the most important conversations taking place in business today. These may include globalization and emerging communication technologies.
Janette Martin teaches management communication and social entrepreneurship in the McIntire School of Commerce. She has a special interest in nonprofit communication, cross-cultural communication, and business rhetoric. Current research involves persuasive writing and audience. She has worked as a freelance writer and public relations consultant in the United States and Italy. She has presented papers at the Association for Business Communication Convention, Conference on College Composition and Communication, and the International Word and Image Conference. Her writing includes a chapter in the book Research Writing Revisited and articles in Academic Exchange Quarterly and INTERFACES, an international journal of the humanities. She earned her Ph.D. from Bowling Green State University.
