Comprising three areas of study (Basic Drawing, Conceptual Foundations, and Digital Skills), Introduction to Studio Art provides a multidisciplinary foundation of skills that are essential for further study in the Studio Art department. In Basic Drawing, students learn observational drawing techniques and how visual thinking connects with the hand. Conceptual Foundations uses creative problem solving to establish in learners a primary literacy in how to “read” form and content in works of art. Digital Skills introduces students to basic tools and capacities relevant to the field of digital media production (including still and moving images and sound), particularly as they relate to the multifaceted relationship between technology, society and the fine arts.
