In this course, we will read and engage with the writings of Adam Smith, principally The Wealth of Nations. We will acquaint ourselves with Smith’s ideas of wealth, commercial society, and capital, but also the questions surrounding government and law that he takes on in the book. Throughout, we will aim understand what Smith thought the possibilities for the study of political economy were at his time, and how those would later be reinterpreted.
